I wouldn't mind having one of these doo-dads affixed to my countertop!

Oyster Plates
Some people say that one should not eat Oysters in a "non-R" month (May - August). I have no fear and eat them year round -- quite frankly, I don't want to live if I can't eat raw oysters. Look at these beautiful vintage Oyster plates I saw on Royal Street yesterday. The Oyster Jubilee is tomorrow at 11AM in the 300 Block of Bourbon.

Everybody Wins (both of us)!
I did not have ricotta. Instead, I subbed greek yogurt. (worked out just fine)
Bucatini: spaghetti-like strands of pasta that are thicker than spaghetti, with a thin, drinking straw like hole in the center
... then a couple of days later, we enjoyed a meatball sandwich

NO Public School Fundraiser
I don't remember the crawfish, the bands or the beer at my Elementary School's Fundraisers growing up? Oh right, I grew up in North Mississippi.

Ponchatoula Strawberries
The Strawberry Festival is soon!
I think I would enjoy being a Strawberry Queen.
Since the chances of that happening are slim to none -- I am happy waving my ice cream scoop at my "kooky" neighbors through the kitchen window while enjoying my homemade Strawberry Sorbet! Winner!

Look what came in my Box!
St. Anna's Episcopal Church on Esplanade has recently started a (very) small Farmer's Market on Saturday afternoons from 1-5. St. Anna's has partnered with The Hollygrove Market & Farm uptown and I was able to receive my $25 CSA produce box without a trip uptown. Hooray! Here is a list of what was in this week's box:
Fruit: Ponchatoula Strawberries (1 pint) Plaquemines Parish Citrus: Grapefruit (2--1.5 lbs) Navels (4--2lbs) Veggies: Amite, LA: Mustard Greens (1 bunch) Turnip Greens (1 bunch Cajun Country--Kinder, LA: Cajun Grain Brown Jasmine Rice (1 bag--1lb) Hollygrove Market & Farm: Green Oak Leaf Lettuce (1 head) Dino Kale (1 bag) Folsom, LA Mizell's Salad Mix (1 bag) La Rose, LA Tomatoes (2--1lb) |

Last Night's Supper
You can't go wrong with Jaques Pepin, right? This chicken was super quick and full of flavor. I used a boneless skinless breast rather than the legs the recipe calls for. Also, I didn't have any sweet apple cider so I improvised with a few tablespoons of apple jelly watered down to give me a 1/2 cup of liquid. Weird?... maybe, but worked out just fine! And I chopped some little matchsticks of squash and zucchini as a side. As always I forgot to sprinkle with the sesame seeds.

cornmeal biscuit
These biscuits were so quick and exactly the instant gratification I wanted! I halved the recipe and it still made a dozen -- I'll have to let you know if they freeze well. I can report that the biscuits are delicious toasted with honey. And speaking of honey ... I have been gifted some super honey recently: Algier's Honey from across the river and another from The Savannah Bee Company. Thanks M!
Hand Pie
Hubig's Pies are cute and made just down the street from my house. You can pop into the factory and buy a T-shirt or visit the online store and get pies shipped right to your door. They will even print a custom message right on the label! I like the "Hu-Dat" that has been seen recently on the labels.

Sausage Biscuit Pinhweels
A personal favorite!
One tube of refrigerator biscuits in a can.
One tube of sausage - I think Maple is best.
Roll out biscuits, spread sausage all over dough. roll. slice and bake until golden brown.
Serve hot and with jelly or jam. Mayhaw jelly is a lot like grape. (click on the link and scroll down to read, "What is a Mayhaw?")
